Has it really been two weeks since the last post???? What have we been doing? Planting 230 vines. The weather has confounded, rain, rain, rain, making the ground too wet to plant. Bare root plants of La Crescent, Frontenac, St. Croix, Frontenac Blanc, and Marquette waiting, waiting, waiting. We grab at the sun on the 1,2,3 days it shines and work from early til late. The heat feels good. Now, all the vines are in and staked, some still to be tied. The rain splashes up on leaves causing black spot on some. Just like the roses. And the Japanese beetles have come. Late, but still here. They are like Venetian lace-makers creating a fretwork in the leaves. How satisfying to smash them between two pieces of broken terracotta! The beetles, not the lacemakers....Bloodlust and more rain....--Deirdre

How has your Frontenac Blanc been performing? Ive gained a strong interest in this varietal and would like to discuss the opportunity of purchasing some cuttings from you at pruning time. My email is Niemann04@gmail.com.
Shawn, next year may present our first oppotunity to take prunings for re-rooting, or it may not. Try Lincoln Peak Vineyard in New Haven, VT. Chris may have something available.
Deidre: Just got your inscribed cookbook/memoir from Michael Stoner, and I cannot *wait* to both dig into the book AND return to Woodstock again to visit your restaurant! I was there a few weeks ago, in late July, and the weather was picture-perfect... so here's to sunny days and the promise of the harvest and table.
